Our sustainability agenda focuses on three key areas, identified through a detailed materiality process as having the greatest significance to our business and our stakeholders: Harm Reduction, Sustainable Agriculture and Farmer Livelihoods and Corporate Behaviour.

We engage with a wide range of stakeholders at local, regional and global levels on key sustainability issues. This engagement includes formal partnerships and collaborations, contributing our expertise and sharing information and ongoing dialogue in our day-to-day business activities.

Our separate performance centre  covers our progress against our goals and performance charts. The data is all independently assured by Ernst & Young LLP.

We're committed to researching, developing and commercialising less risky alternatives to regular cigarettes, including Vapour Products (e-cigarettes) and Tobacco Heating Products. Being transparent about our scientific research  is also central to our approach.

We are committed to working to enable prosperous livelihoods for all farmers who supply our tobacco leaf. We review all our tobacco leaf suppliers against industry-wide standards through the Sustainable Tobacco Programme, and we work to enhance the livelihoods of farmers and rural communities through our dedicated programme of focused support.

We market our products responsibly  and work with retailers to prevent youth smoking. Engaging openly on key regulatory issues and working with others to fight tobacco trafficking  is also crucial to our approach. We also value the diversity our people bring and are committed to protecting the health and safety of our employees and contractors, as well as supporting local communities in which we operate.

We continue to actively reduce our CO2e emissions, waste, energy and water use and have a comprehensive environmental management system based on international standards. Our environmental performance charts can be found on our Sustainability Performance Centre .

We have a long-standing commitment to respect fundamental human rights, including addressing human rights and child labour in tobacco growing and openly responding to human rights allegations. We provide details of the steps we’re taking to prevent slavery and human trafficking in our business and supply chain in our Modern Slavery Act statement.

Our Standards of Business Conduct ensure we comply with anti-bribery and corruption regulations, and provide guidance around political donations. Our other policies, procedures and standards deliver further governance.
